Hockey Dad Delivers A Summer Rendition of Hole’s “Malibu” For Like A Version
After winning triple j’s unearthed competition back in 2014 it’s been a very quick ascent to the top for the two young fellas of Hockey Dad. They’re currently in the midst of their national tour, with multiple sold-out shows and a freshly released single A Night Out With…and now they’re gracing our Friday morning with a rocking rendition of Hole’s Malibu for triple j’s Like A Version.
Two young rocksters covering an ol’ skool, all-gal track… a match made in heaven if you ask us! Hockey dad jumped straight into their signature surfing rock sound, filling the studio with stacks of summer vibes that really does the original track justice.
Veering away from Courtney’s grungy, punk sound the song is re-worked just enough to elevate Zach Stephenson’s catchy guitar riffs to a blissful level. The lightness of Billy Flemming’s snare drums cozies up to Stephenson’s vibrant vocals perfectly, like a warm hug on a winter morning (aww!).
These Wollongong talents are definitely keeping us on our toes, who doesn’t love a little grunge-re-work for your Friday? It’s a refreshing rendition filled with perfectly paced instrumentals and punchy vocals, and with the success of their album release of ‘Boronia’ last month, it’s safe to say there’s no sign of slowing down for Hockey Dad. There’s only a handful of tickets left for a few shows so we recommend grabbing a ticket ASAP!
