Little Birdy’s Katy Steele Releases Single, Announces Tour & Debut Album

Katy Steele, frontwoman of praised Perth natives Little Birdy, has returned to the scene with the release of Where’s The Laughter, the lead single of her upcoming debut album ‘Human’. The single marks a slight departure from Little Birdy’s iconic sound, stripping back guitars and pulsing drums for a softer, more subtle pop-rock sound, somewhere between Meg Mac and Montaigne.

Where’s The Laughter is an upbeat, head-bopping tune that’s bound to have listeners humming along to the catchy vocal hooks. Percussive pops and clicks punctuate the mix while the simple piano refrain and bare-bones beat push the song forward.

Steele first found success with Little Birdy’s singles Relapse and Baby Blue, which reached #16 and #25 on the triple j Hottest 100 in 2003. Little Birdy have released three studio albums to date, all of which entered the ARIA Top 10 Album Chart.

The members of Little Birdy are currently pursuing other avenues, stating in 2010, We want to stress that the band is NOT breaking up and we will be working together again in the future”. Guitarist Simon Leach is pursuing a solo career, while drummer Matt Chequer has moved into producing, and bassist Scott O’Donoghue is working with other bands.

After spending time in New York working on her solo debut, Steele returned to her childhood home in Perth to finish ‘Human’, which was recorded at Rara studios with producer Matt Gio (Rudimental, Troy Sivan), and was mixed by Eric J (Flume, Wafia, Chet Faker).

Katy Steele’s album ‘Human’ is set for release on Friday, the 21st of October. Check out the single and tour dates below!
