Madi Leeds Wows Us With Dreamy New Single ‘Spinelli’

Emerging Melbourne gem Madi Leeds delivers a slice of indie-pop goodness with generous layers of delicious synth on new track ‘Spinelli’.

Showing a clear shift away from her older work which was largely folk-pop, new tune ‘Spinelli’ is a fresh synth-pop style for the songwriter. Drawing on diverse inspirations such as Amy Winehouse, Sky Ferreira, HAIM and Chairlift, it’s no wonder that Madi can gracefully play with a variety of genres to create shimmering soundscapes that stick with you long after they’ve finished playing.

The delicate vocals and upbeat synth-heavy instrumentals on ‘Spinelli’ set a juxtaposing background against the soulful and vulnerable lyrics that feel like a glimpse into an open diary.

The track is focussed on a time of mental turmoil amongst a social setting, with Madi explaining that she “wrote this track about feeling incredibly isolated and disconnected at a Halloween party where I was dressed as a Disney ‘Recess!’ character (Spinelli).” The theme of isolation is made even more poignant by today’s climate, highlighting Madi’s ability to craft pieces that are powerful and topical, while remaining incredibly enjoyable.

With Matty Sievers on production, recording, mixing and mastering and Damon Langley on production and synth-recording, ‘Spinelli’ is a polished piece of music that proves Madi is an artist to be reckoned with.
