PREMIERE: Meridian Theory Drop Heavy New Single “Two Steps Forward”

Follow our premiere of their single You Call That A Cutlass?, NSW metalcore crew Meridian Theory have dropped another hard-hitting single, Two Steps Forward, from their upcoming EP ‘You Call THAT An EP?’. Drawing influences from Parkway Drive to The Chariot, the band’s new single channels their assorted influence while displaying the same ferocious energy that the group display at their shows.

Two Steps Forward gets right into it from the get go, bursting out of the gate with powerful chugs with some off-kilter guitar licks added on the end, which keep the chugging patterns interesting rather than feeling old and overused. The groups love for Aussie metalcore giants Parkway Drive is obvious, however it’s also undercut for the more melodic end of the metalcore spectrum.

Meridian Theory have seamlessly melded these two influences, with their almost but not quite Parkway Drive riffing being undercut by some extremely interesting and well written melodic guitar lines, similar to early While She Sleeps.

The addition of these guitar lines pushes Meridian Theory ahead of many contemporary metalcore bands for their ingenuity, while also displaying the bands technical capability. The chorus sections of Two Steps Forward see the band revert to a more simplistic guitar style, which really allow the group’s clean vocalist to showcase his pipes.

Recorded in Melbourne with Dream On Dreamer’s Calan Orr and ex-Closure In Moscow drummer Beau McKee , the song’s production is another standout with each instrument sounding crisp and loud while working together as a cohesive whole. Two Steps Forward is a tasty helping of modern metalcore from the North Coast lads!

Two Steps Forward lyrically deals with the feeling of taking two steps forward in life, only to be pushed back. “Sometimes you can feel like every good thing you do is counteracted by a negative thing, but if you persist and make larger changes you can shape the way you view the world around you,” said the band.

Meridian Theory have a few upcoming shows, and plan to tour extensively at the end of the year and throughout next year, so keep your eyes peeled!
