Snakehips & ZAYN Team Up For “Cruel” New Single

UK duo Snakehips have teamed up with One Direction’s ZAYN on their newest banger Cruel, a follow up to their EP’s ‘All My Friends’ and ‘Forever (Pt. II).

The London electronic duo have captivated audiences with their unique production elements that are taking them to stages around the world to festivals like Chicago’s Lollapalooza and The UK’s Bestival.

Cruel makes use of call-and-response style beats and when layered with ZAYN’s smokey sounding voice, creating a vibe similar to The Weeknd. As ZAYN croons his way through sultry lyrics the thumping bass and sharp drum hits drive the song forward.

The complex layering of synthesisers and drum patterns creates a massive sound that thankfully doesn’t clutter the track’s mix. The instrumentation builds up after each chorus before dropping at the moments before the end of the song, allowing the vocals to gently fade away and finish.

Cruel takes a slightly more refined sounds when compared to the duo’s last single All My Friends. Their last smash hit paved the way for Cruel to appropriate the pitch-bent style backing vocals and synth runs that have found their way into Snakehips’ catalogue of bangers.

You’ll be able to catch Snakehips at Splendour In The Grass on Saturday night, as well as their sideshows in Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth.
