Sweet Jean Cruise In With “Main Street” Video & Tour Info
Melbourne indie-pop duo Sweet Jean have returned with an intriguing music video for their latest single Main Street.
Since the release their 2013 debut album ‘Dear Departure’, Sime Nugent and Alice Keath have been gaining praise for their dark and lush take on indie-pop, and have become favourites of Australian music legend Paul Kelly.
The lead single from their sophomore album ‘Monday To Friday’, Main Street matches Keath’s sweet vocals over a chugging muted guitar, that takes off in the chorus backed by some booming alt-pop production, overall sounding like a sweet mixture of Sarah Blasko and Missy Higgins.
The band says Main Street “draws loosely on 80’s new wave and William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience. It’s about growing up and realising how fallible our beliefs, memories, and aspirations are in a post-Santa reality, and where to look for that wonder we all seem to need once we realise we’re just monkeys wearing runners.”
The music video sees the pair seated at a table across from each other while experience several moments of…strangeness. During the video disembodied hands apply make up to the duo, time pauses for a person pouring milk while another pulls the glass away, and flowers change colour. Once the song hits its final rousing chorus a gust of wind propels balloons and streamers in Sime’s direction.
