Take 5 With Banjo Lucia

Freemantle singer-songwriter, Banjo Lucia has today unveiled her heart warming debut EP, Peccadilloes. It comes with previously released singles, Leaving Again, Lion Boy and That’s Not Loving.

Peccadilloes is a very impressive body of work, featuring a range of unique soundscapes that highlights Banjo Lucia’s amazing songwriting talents. To get to know the young artist better, today she is sharing with us her 5 favourite tunes she’s loving at the moment.

I Made a Lovers Prayer- Gillian Welch

Gillian Welch has always been a huge musical presence in my life. My love for her music is a mixture of nostalgia and profound respect for her and Dave Rawlings’ lyrical and musical ability and chemistry. The album that this song is from, Soul Journey, is still one of my favourite albums of all time. This song feels like being cradled by Gillian.

Backsliding- Hannah Cameron

Hannah Cameron is an absolutely incredible Australian musician. I fell in love with this song when I saw her play it live right before the beginning of the pandemic and it’s one of those songs that somehow gets even better every time I come back to it.

Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes- Paul Simon

This song is another song I’ve been listening to my whole life. Something about the combination of Paul Simons way of writing and the particular sound of the Graceland album is absolutely enchanting to me.

Thowgla Road- SlimJimCo

SlimJimCo is a Naarm based artist who happens to also be my cousin. However I promise I’m not being biased when I say I love his EP, Thowgla Road, so damn much. The simple production style and vocal/instrumental skill in this song have made it one of my most frequently played songs in the past year.

How Come You Never Go There- Fiest and Beck

This song and this combination of artists is so ridiculously perfect it hurts. Fiest’s angelic vocals and Beck’s unique production style and drums come together in what has got to be one of my favourite songs of all time.

Banjo Lucia’s will be showcasing her stunning debut EP on the road alongside, San Cisco throughout June. Peccadilloes is available now, everywhere.
