Take 5 With Sunset Salore
Melbourne based Singer/Songwriter Sunset Salore has released her enchanting single ‘Call It’, which recently premiered exclusively by us. Today we throw the aux cord over to Sunset Salore to hear her five favourite tracks and artists of the minute and why.
Baker Boy, feat Yirrmal – Ride
This song comes from Baker Boy’s 2021 album, Gela, and features Yirrmal. Gela was a fantastic album across the board, but I keep coming back to this track, although there are other standout tracks like Move and My Mind and if I’m honest it was hard to choose between these three. Baker Boy’s smooth flow style perfectly compliments Yirrmal’s distinctive vocals. All in all, this is a smooth, feel good track that still lives on in my playlist rotation and isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Neither is the whole album…
Mia Wray -Silk Chiffon (triple j Like a Version)
I love all of Mia’s music. It was a privilege to see her live recently in Melbourne’s Bergy Bandroom, and a challenge to choose just one track to showcase her unique voice. With phenomenal songwriting across her career, it’s almost an injustice to choose a cover, however her Triple J Like a Version cover of Californian trio MUNA’s Silk Chiffon blows the original out of the water in my opinion. I couldn’t stop playing it. Makes an excellent sing-along track in the car too.

What can I say about Teddy, except – THAT VOICE. He didn’t disappoint recently on his world tour and we loved the Melbourne show. I could listen to him sing for days. Apple Juice is one of a number of equally catchy foot tappers on the recent album, including Goodbye’s Been Good To You, and What More Can I Say, but is the one I couldn’t get out of my head the most. Seems like a humble guy who loves performing for the audience, but also makes me want to go for a drink with him down the pub too. I think he’d be fun to chill with over a Henny. I’m so glad he has blown up the way he has.
Australian talent Merci, Mercy sounds wise beyond her years and enchants with a dreamy kind of pop that still has some grit underpinning it. I love the guitar riffs, her voice soaring over the top and the irresistible urge to tap my feet the whole way through this song. The melodies feel soft and layered with an edge, and her lyricism thoughtful and charmingly resonant.
Indie funk pop band More Fatter from San Francisco singing about one of my favourite pastries, the croissant.. What’s not to love? Taking themselves just the right amount of seriously to pull off such a track. The catchy hook, well placed guitar, and disco groove just sort of work and pull off the metaphor without becoming too cheesy to hit cringe yet still managing to include lyrics like “ooh you’re flaky, flaky”. I don’t think I could love it more if I tried. Soundtrack for your roadtrip, dancefloor, or dancing around the living room in guilty pleasure.
