Thom Lion’s New Single Has Us Caught

Thom LIon

Adelaide’s Thom Lion has moved us once again with his astounding new single Fire Escape, hot on the heels of his last release Mess At Best back in February.

Since being named by the AU Review as one of South Australia’s Top 5 Emerging Artists in 2015, Thom has been hard at work writing and recording. With Fire Escape being his second release so far this year, he’s proving to be a very prolific musician.

Although seeded in the frustration and pain of a relationship gone bad, Fire Escape is an elevating and captivating piece of music. With a pounding beat and synthesised blips over the bass line, this song resembles nothing so much as an 80s pop hit.

The vocals are powerful and much rawer than we’re used to hearing from Thom, but the lyrics deliver his characteristic poetry and vulnerability. Lines such as “Making all my dreams before you take them away” evoke a level of drama worthy of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’.

Fire Escape is a rich, soulful track, which is nothing new for Thom, who has consistently released songs that move his listeners with every play.

Melbourne fans of Thom will be lucky enough to see him perform with Sal Kimber & The Rollin’ Wheel and Mijo Biscan on Friday the 20th of May at Bella Union.
