SET TIMES RELEASED: Brisbane’s Big (and Final) Kick On!

Brisbanes Big Kick On

Queensland’s new lockout laws have been a part of the conversation for several months now and despite petitions and countless pleas from the community, it seems there’s no stopping the cold, hard fist of the law.

From July 1 the laws will be implemented statewide, which means 2am lockouts or 3am in ‘Safe Night Out’ Entertainment Precincts (Casinos, ‘cause Tax baby!). The new lockout laws will most likely lead to job redundancies and a decrease in our state’s nightlife – either way Queensland’s music scene as we know it will be affected.

So how do we get those in power to hear us, you might ask? Enter Brisbane’s Big Kick On!

The kind folks at Bedlam Records, the local legends who brought you Deadlam, Shredlam, and Sausage and Breadlam, have heeded Brisbane’s call. Four stellar venues across Fortitude Valley will join forces on the last night before the revised lockout laws take effect to deliver free sets from awesome local acts to celebrate the last few hours of relative freedom.

Brisbane’s Big Kick On boasts a huge lineup of emerging and established acts including Baskervillain, Twin Haus, Shady Bliss, The Jensens, and more. Oh, did we mention it’s all FREE.

The Brightside, Black Bear Lodge, The Foundry, and The Flying Cock will provide free entry across the night, on the condition that you sign an anti-lockout law petition when you walk through the door.

Your signature is a small price to pay for the music that is on offer, a cater-to-all smorgasbord of alt-rock, indie, psych, electronica, and hip-hop acts who have united to raise their voices (and their instruments) for the worthy cause.

With sets from Melbourne’s Dumb Punts, the angelic Lastlings, and a split show between hip hop heavyweights Midas.Gold and Gallus, you’re assured to end the night with a smile on your face and a fire lit under your ass.

If the Mountain Goat Valley Crawl taught us anything it’s that with solidarity between venues, musicians, and punters alike (and a decent amount of Sailor Jerry’s/Young Henry’s), we can create a loud enough noise for the higher-ups to hear us.
