PREMIERE: The Velvet Addiction Are Definitively Melbourne’s Coolest Band With ‘Stuck On You’

Sweat, swagger and shake to the Velvet Addiction’s new stomper, Stuck On You. Not to be confused with the 2003 movie of the same name, although the song will certainly stick in your head the same way Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear stuck to each other. Based out of Melbourne, there’s enough veracity and coolness emanating from this band that it will make switch from Japandroids to the Velvet Addiction on your long, nighttime highway drive—aviator sunnies included.

The Velvet Addiction has kindly given AAA Backstage the exclusive first share of the new single, Stuck On You before its official release. In addition to the group’s new single, it’s also nothing short of a big news day for the four-piece. Stuck On You is the first taster from the band’s upcoming, debut EP titled, ‘Volume 1’ to be released Friday 27 October. Furthermore—yeah, we’re not done yet—to celebrate the release of the EP, through October and November, the Velvet Addiction will be hitting the road, performing to crowds in Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Hobart and Melbourne.

Stuck On You follows previous jams, Take Me Back and I Won’t Go—tracks which solidified the Velvet Addiction’s place in the live scene and eschewed them into taking further leaps and bounds into the studio. Think the ultimate swagger from the Delta Riggs mashed with the ultimate riffage of old, good Jet; the Velvet Addiction sit right in the middle. The dynamic back-and-forth from the band’s intermingling vocals and wafering riffs make for a compelling listen. No doubt there’ll be some air drumming happening so a fair warning if you are jamming out to this in the car.

The Delta Riggs reference isn’t just a shot in the dark as the single was produced by mastermind George Carpenter who’s previously worked with the Riggs along with Waxhead, Ash Grunwald and the Babe Rainbow.

Labelling the single as their most definitive and true-to-form the band’s released thus far, vocalist Stefan West elaborates:

“The single is about the insanity that lies in being attached to the idea of someone rather than loving that person for who they are,” said West.

Speaking of the EPs gusto and overall mood, guitarist, Aaron Bach, spoke of its affliction to the band’s definitive appeal and their ability to put their blood, swat and tears into it:

“‘Volume 1′ is about us. Not always prepared, not completely in time, not always making sense and definitely not trying to reinvent the wheel. Just us, raw, honest and loud” said Bach.
