PREMIERE: Sunny Flynn Hugo Pedal Through Streets Of Your Town In Debut Single
We live in the sunshine state and October definitely is delivering waves of UV rays! As such it’s time to seriously consider updating your Road Trippin’ and Sunday Sesh playlists. Luckily for you we’ve come across super-new kids on the block Sunny Flynn Hugo, and their debut single City Always Lets You Down is an instant addition to your summertime playlists!
The Brisbane quartet began out of an attempt to take refuge from the blistering Queensland sun and soaking humidity back in 2015. In an old Queenslander just a “stones throw from Suncorp Stadium and under the shade of the XXXX brewery”, the four lads spent most of the summer hanging out and writing music without aircon or a breath of breeze.
However, if City Always Lets You Down is anything to go by, it seems the Queensland summer helped Sunny Flynn Hugo forge some crackin’ tunes! The band’s first single is charming combo of The Beautiful Girls and Angus Stones’ Dope Lemon project.
The jangly intro guitar riff mixed with breezy vocals and simple backing rhythms is the perfect sonic backdrop to your next Milton Mango with your squad. The song may say Brisbane always lets you down, but with smooth guitar breaks, a simple surfy vocal melody, and subtle warm keyboard tones, Sunny Flynn Hugo’s debut tune will never dog the boys.
The music video for City Always Lets You Down sees the quartet, made up of Power, Ryan, Tuck, and Wyllie, pedal through their band’s neighbourhood of Bardon and Paddington with a Go-Pro strapped atop each head. The result is four minutes of surprisingly relaxing black-and-white footage of Brisbane suburbia, which kind of makes you want to find a nice long hill and coast down it on your own two-wheeler…
Sunny Flynn Hugo will be launching City Always Lets You Down on Thursday 10th of November at Brisbane’s Junk Bar, supported by local folk songstress Angharad Drake.
